Birdwatching and ecotourism are themes of significant interest in many MAB UNESCO Biosphere Reserves and in various natural areas. The Po Delta is an area of excellence in these fields: as experiences gained over the years by local professionals and enterprises are seen as good practices of sustainable development in the field of birdwatching and ecotourism and represent a significant background where the territory can offer expertise and know-how.

The International School on Birdwatching and Ecotourism will combine lectures with experts and professionals in the field, with excursions in the area of the Po Delta.

The School will discuss the evolution of birdwatching and ecotourism as forms of tourism, also addressing nature photography, it will organize meetings with local operators specialised in these fields that will bring their experience and give explanations to what it means and how to work in these spheres. Excursions on foot, by bike or boat will allow participants to observe and appreciate what it means to do and work with birdwatching and ecotourism.

The International School aims to encourage and promote birdwatching and ecotourism as tools for growth and sustainable development in Biosphere Reserves and more generally in natural areas, promoting the economic development of local communities and the protection of natural and cultural heritage of these places.

The Po Delta International School on Birdwatching and Ecotourism will be held in English and will welcome about 30 participants from different Biosphere Reserves as well as national and international natural areas to share experiences and knowledge, along with the opportunity to network with other areas concerned by the same issues.  Main target participants for the School are administrators and officers of Public Administrations in territories and natural areas where birdwatching and ecotourism can developed or strengthen; managers or employees in tourist destination management organizations (DMOs) interested in developing birdwatching and ecotourism; tourist operators already working who wish to improve or tourist operators who wish to diversify their activities in the field of birdwatching and ecotourism.
